DUARTE, California — T.K. Carter, the seasoned actor recognized for his roles in the iconic horror film “The Thing” and the beloved television series “Punky Brewster,” has passed away at the age of 69.
Authorities from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that Carter was found unresponsive on Friday evening in Duarte, California. Deputies were called to the scene, where they confirmed his death.
While the cause of death remains undisclosed, officials have stated that there is no suspicion of foul play involved in the incident.
Born as Thomas Kent “T.K.” Carter on December 18, 1956, in New York City, he spent his formative years in Southern California.
Carter’s career began in stand-up comedy, paving the way for a variety of acting roles. He gained notable recognition for his portrayal of Nauls, the cook, in John Carpenter’s 1982 horror masterpiece, “The Thing.” Additionally, he was a familiar face on the 1980s sitcom “Punky Brewster,” where he held a recurring role.
Other big-screen roles include “Runaway Train” in 1985, “Ski Patrol” in 1990 and “Space Jam” in 1996.
“T.K. Carter was a consummate professional and a genuine soul whose talent transcended genres,” his publicist, Tony Freeman, said in a statement. “He brought laughter, truth, and humanity to every role he touched. His legacy will continue to inspire generations of artists and fans alike.”
