Before his arrest Thursday, police had been searching for Averyhart for more than four months already, suspected in a string of burglaries and sexual assaults. He’s now charged in connection with four different incident reports, the first one taking place late last year.

Averyhart was charged with two felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, home invasion, aggravated kidnapping, unlawful restraint and three felony counts of burglary, police said.

The 19-year-old man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in the 1800 block of West Lunt Avenue on May 1, threatening her with a knife, then fleeing on a bicycle. Averyhart was arrested just two blocks away a short time later. Police also recovered a bicycle nearby.

Prosecutors said Averyhart is also behind three separate incidents that took place on the 6200 block of North Bell Avenue on December 26, December 28 and January 10. Two of those were burglaries, and the third was a sexual assault of a 27-year-old woman. He allegedly into her home and also threatening her with a knife. Those incidents all taking place less than a mile from an address listed as Averyhart’s residence.

In court Sunday, a judge ordered Averyhart be detained pending his trial.
