One of the stars of the beloved sitcom Family Matters has found himself in serious legal trouble.

Actor Darius McCrary, widely recognized for his role as Eddie Winslow in the popular TV series from 1989 to 1998, co-starring with Jaleel White, Reginald VelJohnson, and Jo Marie Payton, has been arrested near the U.S.-Mexico boundary in California. He is presently detained in a San Diego jail, according to TMZ.

Based on online records, the 48-year-old actor was apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol on Sunday due to a fugitive arrest connected to a felony charge from another state.

The California Penal Code section cited in the case typically applies to individuals wanted in another state for a serious offense, per the outlet.

Daily Mail has reached out to McCrary’s reps for comment and has yet to hear back.

Details surrounding the alleged crime remain unclear, but this isn’t McCrary’s first run-in with the law.

The actor was previously arrested in 2015 and again in 2023 for failing to pay child support.

McCrary’s legal issues stem from his contentious split with ex-wife Tammy Brawner, finalized in 2019 after a two-year court battle.

As part of their divorce agreement, the actor was ordered to pay $1,366 per month in child support.

In January 2023, McCrary filed a restraining order against his ex, alleging she was ‘terrorizing’ him.

He previously sought an order of protection in August 2022, but it was denied after he failed to appear in court.

McCrary claimed he missed the hearing because he was ‘displaced at the time, and had to flee from my ex.’

The actor claimed at the time that he no longer lives in his own home ‘due to abuse — physical, verbal, [and] mental — from my ex.’

He also claimed that she transformed their former home into a drug den. After leaving to undergo rehabilitation, he discovered upon his return that his belongings had been moved to storage and she refused to return them.

McCrary said the ‘final straw’ came in December when she allegedly threatened to take his dog if he didn’t pay her.

He added that he now fears for his safety, saying he worries he could ‘end up like Phil Hartman,’ the Saturday Night Live alum who was shot and killed by his wife in 1998.

McCrary became a household name as Eddie Winslow on Family Matters, a role that made him one of the most recognizable teen actors of the ’90s.

The beloved sitcom ran from 1989 to 1998, with McCrary holding his own alongside stars like White, =VelJohnson, and Payton.

Known for his charm and comedic timing, his portrayal helped cement the show as a cultural touchstone.

But years after winning over fans as Eddie Winslow, McCrary’s recent arrest shows that life off-screen can be a lot messier than the sitcom world he once knew.
