Adam Carolla Takes a Fiery Jab at Karen Bass Over AC Remarks Amid Soaring Heatwave

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass recently found herself in the spotlight after making remarks about air conditioning amidst Southern California’s sweltering heat wave. Radio host and comedian Adam Carolla was quick to challenge her statements.

Mayor Bass, addressing the intense heat gripping Los Angeles and its neighboring regions, highlighted the city’s efforts to provide relief through cooling centers. She mentioned that many apartments and homes lack air conditioning, attributing this to the relatively recent impact of global warming. “Frankly, we didn’t need air conditioning until the last few years as global warming has impacted our city. So we would like to promote taking advantage of those resources,” she stated during a press conference.

Carolla responded sharply on social media platform X, saying, “Bass is full of s–t.” He claimed his personal experience growing up in LA contradicted the mayor’s claims. “I grew up in LA—believe me, you needed air conditioning 50 years ago. I know because we didn’t have any,” Carolla quipped, reflecting on his own childhood.

His remarks resonated with many Los Angeles residents, who similarly recalled enduring the city’s historic heat without the comfort of air conditioning. The conversation highlights an ongoing debate about climate change and its tangible effects on urban living conditions.

Many agreed with the LA native.

“As someone also born and raised here, I can say that’s a fact! We lived in the community pools during summer cause none of us could afford it but didn’t want to cook in our houses,” one X user replied.

“I’ve lived in LA for nearly 40 yrs. Hell yes we needed AC,” a second added.

“It’s always been hot in LA. It’s only cool to cold for about 6 weeks in Dec/January,” a third chimed in. “By Valentine’s Day is tank top weather. This has nothing to do with climate change. What a con artist.”

The heat in Southern California this week is expected to shatter records, with temperatures set to surge as much as 35 degrees above normal and into the triple digits.

The National Weather Service warned Monday that “a dangerous heat wave” will scorch the region this week, with the mercury peaking between Tuesday and Friday.

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s across Southern California on Monday, before climbing into the low 100s by Wednesday, according to the weather service.

“There will be a high risk for heat illness for everyone—especially in locations away from the coast. If you or someone you know is at risk for heat-related problems, please make cooling plans now for the rest of this week,” the NWS warned.
