Chicago police say a suspect or suspects have been placing stickers and/or graffiti with antisemitic phrases on mailboxes, stop signs, Amazon lockers and emergency bells.

The incidents date back to June 23, with the most recent ones taking place on Tuesday.

The vandalism has been found on the 5100-block of University Avenue, the 1200- and 1300- blocks of East 53rd Street, 1300-block of East 54th Street, and the 1500- and 1600-blocks of East 55th Street.

Some of the incidents took place in Alderman Lamont Robinson’s district.

“I have been in contact with the Chicago Police Department. We are looking at the cameras that are in Hyde Park to catch this assailant. Again, this is a very serious matter,” said Robinson, who represents the 4th Ward.

The CEO and president of the Jewish United Fund of Chicago is denouncing the acts.

“It’s on the North Side. It’s on the South Side. It’s downtown. The rash of antisemitic incidents in the last year alone has been unprecedented,” Lonnie Nasatir said. “The fact that there’s antisemitic slogans being put on mailboxes, and Amazon lockers, and bus stops is not OK. And we, as a society, are saying that this goes way beyond the bounds of free speech. This is intimidation and harassment. And we, as a society, cannot make these types of incidents normal.”
