More alleged sex abuse victims of Aurora chiropractor Murtaza Hameed, of Arwa Chiropractic, come forward: officials

AURORA, Ill. (WLS) — Investigators have uncovered new details into sexual abuse and sexual assault accusations against an Aurora chiropractor, who is facing new charges after more alleged victims have come forward.

One of the lead investigators in this case told ABC7 on Tuesday that the age range of the alleged victims is vaster they originally thought, calling what they’ve learned “disturbing.”

“Not only did people trust him, but he came across as very likable to many people,” said Aurora Police Department Detective Jen Hillgoth. “I absolutely believe that, wholeheartedly, there are many victims. How many, I don’t know.”

Dr. Murtaza Hameed, 46, was in court on Tuesday.

The DuPage County state’s attorney said Hameed has numerous felony charges against him.

The Naperville man was arrested in May, accused of abusing two teenage boys at his practice, Arwa Chiropractic, in Aurora. He is now facing 13 more charges related to criminal sexual abuse regarding young patients.

Investigators say since the news of his arrest became public, three more alleged victims came forward.

“These victims deserve to have somebody in their corner, working hard to get justice for them, but also, more importantly, to prevent this from happening to others,” Hillgoth said.

Hillgoth is one of the lead investigators on this case. She says the range of Hameed’s alleged victims has now expanded from as young as 11 years old to adults.

The alleged incidents span nearly a decade, dating back to 2016 and up until as recently a few months ago.

“This behavior never stopped. It continued, and so, one of my fears is, how many victims?” Hillgoth said.

Hillgoth fears there could be more, but hopes they come forward.

“For any other victims that may be never will feel comfortable coming forward, maybe they don’t want people know what happened to them, I want them to know they are not alone,” Hillgoth said.

A judge on Tuesday released Hameed on electronic monitoring with home confinement until his trial. He is due back in court on July 8.
