The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the teen is expected to be OK, and they don’t believe the shooting is gang related.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A teen is recovering Sunday morning after being grazed in the head by a bullet during a shooting on Jacksonville’s Westside, according to a spokesperson with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO)

JSO officers responded to the 100 block of King Street around 1 a.m. to a call of a person shot, according to Sgt. Christopher Smith with the Sheriff’s Office.

Officers found a teenaged boy suffering from at least one gunshot wound, and sent him to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Smith said JSO’s initial investigation found the teen was walking nearby in a group, when another group of males wearing all black clothing and masks over their faces approached them. The group in all black pulled out guns and began firing at the victim’s group. The victim’s group ran away and to a nearby apartment.

The teen realized he had been shot and 911 was called. Smith said the teen appeared to have been grazed in the head by a bullet.

The suspects were last seen running in the apartment complex on foot.

Smith said JSO believes the victim’s group and the suspect group know each other, but at this time it does not appear to be gang related.

If you have any information related to the incident, contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office via phone at 904-630-0500, go online to JSOCRIMETIPS@JAXSHERIFF.ORG, or call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 866-845-TIPS.
