CHICAGO (WGN) – This October, the smallest and most vulnerable patients at Advocate Children’s Hospital are joining in the Halloween spirit, despite their current stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). For many of these newborns, it marks their very first Halloween celebration.

Parents, in collaboration with the hospital’s care team, have creatively dressed their infants in a variety of costumes, ensuring safety and comfort. Among this year’s delightful ensembles are costumes such as a Costco hot dog, a tiny scuba diver, and even a miniature Hulkamania wrestler.

The hospital’s annual Halloween event also includes an engaging social media contest.

Photographs of these adorable babies are being shared on Advocate Children’s Hospital’s Facebook page. The public is invited to participate by “liking” their favorite costume photos. The baby whose picture garners the most reactions by noon on Monday, October 27, will be awarded a special prize.

“This annual celebration is about honoring the incredible strength and perseverance of our NICU patients and their families. They truly embody the spirit of superheroes each day,” expressed Dr. Frank Belmonte, President of Advocate Children’s Hospital. “Allowing our littlest patients to partake in their first Halloween is a small but meaningful way to bring joy and smiles to the families who deserve it most during their time in the NICU.”
