A passenger recounted a tense moment during a flight after noticing the plane swerved several times, followed by the alarming sight of a flight attendant assisting one of the pilots out of the cockpit.
WASHINGTON — On Wednesday, an Air Canada flight was compelled to make an emergency landing after the captain experienced a sudden health issue.
Flight 7664 from Air Canada had departed from Newark Liberty International Airport en route to Halifax, Nova Scotia, when an unexpected medical problem struck the unnamed pilot.
According to information provided by the airline to WCVB, the captain was “removed from the flight deck” in accordance with safety protocols, allowing the first officer to assume control of the plane.
Upon landing at Boston’s Logan International Airport, emergency personnel were observed boarding the aircraft. The pilot was subsequently placed in an ambulance and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The 61 passengers on board the twin-turbo prop plane were not injured.
One passenger said he knew something was wrong after the plane swerved multiple times while in flight. He described it like someone jolting the controls.
“Within a few moments, one of the flight attendants went into the cockpit frantically, and a few moments later, he was dragging one of the pilots out of the cockpit,” passenger Rodney McDonald told WCVB.
