WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s aircraft, Air Force One, is making its way back to Joint Base Andrews after initially setting out for Switzerland on Tuesday evening.

According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the decision to return was taken shortly after takeoff due to the discovery of “a minor electrical issue” by the crew. Exercising caution, they opted to bring the plane back.

A reporter aboard mentioned that the lights in the press cabin flickered briefly post-departure, but no detailed explanation was provided at that moment.

Once back, Trump is expected to switch to another plane and proceed with his journey to the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The current Air Force One planes have been in service for nearly 40 years. Boeing is tasked with developing replacements, although the project has encountered multiple delays.

Last year, the ruling family of Qatar gifted Trump a luxury Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet to be added into the Air Force One fleet, a move that faced great scrutiny. That plane is currently being retrofitted to meet security requirements.

Leavitt joked to reporters on Air Force One Tuesday night that a Qatari jet was sounding “much better” right now.
