DECATUR, Ala. — Authorities are currently investigating a shooting that took place Monday afternoon at a Lowe’s store, involving deputies from Morgan and Lawrence counties.
The incident unfolded at the Lowe’s on Beltline Road, where the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office was aiding the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office in the search for a wanted individual. The situation escalated, resulting in a shooting involving law enforcement officers.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office reported that one of its deputies was injured during the incident. Fortunately, the deputy has been released from the hospital, while the suspect remains in stable condition as of Tuesday morning.
“As is standard procedure in any officer-involved shooting, an external agency has been called upon to conduct the investigation,” stated the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.
Initially, Decatur Police were tasked with the investigation. However, due to a Decatur Police Department officer’s involvement in securing the scene post-incident, the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office has now taken over the investigation to ensure impartiality.
A DPD Spokesperson confirmed that Decatur officers responded to the shooting. The department said that no Decatur officers were involved in the shooting.
