DEKALB COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said it arrested a man on an assault warrant Monday.
On June 30, DCSO said investigators received a call from a 911 dispatcher that a woman had been assaulted at a home near the Powell community. Deputies and Investigators arrived on the scene as the ambulance transported the woman to the hospital. DCSO said the woman suffered serious physical injuries and remains hospitalized.
Court documents say the woman was beaten with a vegetable can and had internal injuries, broken facial bones, major contusions, abrasions and lacerations.
On Tuesday, DCSO investigators secured a warrant for 46-year-old James Edward Wooten.
Later on Tuesday, DCSO said Wooten was seen driving near County Road 47 and County Road 48.
DCSO said law enforcement tried to stop the vehicle, but Wooten fled in the vehicle. After a pursuit, Wooten was taken into custody on the first-degree assault warrant and then was also charged with Felony Attempt to Elude and DUI, combined influence.
He was transported to DeKalb County Detention Center. His bond is set at $30,000.
