Alicia Silverstone took the entertainment world by storm in the ’90s, making her mark in films like “The Crush,” captivating audiences in Aerosmith’s sultry music videos, and earning her title as Hollywood’s quintessential It girl.

Hailing from Northern California, Silverstone, now 48, rose to fame as a teen sensation with hits like “Clueless” and “The Babysitter,” and thrilled comic book enthusiasts by playing Batgirl in 1997’s “Batman & Robin” alongside George Clooney and Chris O’Donnell.

But even at the peak of her fame—seemingly untouchable—the blonde bombshell faced brutal body-shaming.

One magazine even slapped the headline ‘A Weighty Issue’ on a 1996 piece comparing her figure to Babe the Pig.

In a new interview, Silverstone admits the cruel scrutiny still lingers.

‘We did things differently back then, and it certainly wasn’t easy. But it’s all good; nothing to lose sleep over,’ she shared with ET and added, ‘Yet it’s something that sticks with you.’

She also reflected on the challenges of skyrocketing to fame while still a teenager.

‘It was really hard, because you’re just a little girl. You’re a little person and trying to grow up, and you’re growing up in front of people,’ she explained.

‘For any human, it’s an awkward time… For any human, most of life is pretty awkward.’

And that awkwardness hit early—her very first major co-star, who she had to kiss on screen, was nearly 14 years older.

When she landed The Crush at just 15, Silverstone found herself opposite Cary Elwes.

‘I had to kiss the guy from The Princess Bride!’ she recalled with a laugh.

‘I was young, so because we had this kiss in the film, I thought that that meant he was my boyfriend now. Not really… but a little bit.’

Looking back at the role that first thrust her into the spotlight, she recalled the grueling audition process for The Crush.

In a new interview, Silverstone admits the cruel scrutiny still lingers: 'We definitely did it differently back then. And that was not easy, for sure. But it's all fine. Nothing to lose sleep over, but certainly something that stays with you'

‘They had me back many, many times, and it seemed like I was going to get the part — and then they offered it to someone else,’  she told the outlet.

‘It felt really bad. For some reason, I felt like I was supposed to play this psychotic character,’ she added.

When the first actress bowed out, fate swung back in Silverstone’s favor — and the role landed in her lap after all.

In the same interview, Silverstone reflected on the infamous Batman & Robin — the 1997 flop that earned her a Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actress.

‘When Batman & Robin came out, I don’t think people liked it very much,’ she admitted. ‘But later on, people told me it’s their favorite movie. It’s very camp.’

Silverstone reflected on how her approach to acting shifted over the years.

‘Before Clueless, I was much more intuitive and playful and had more confidence about what I was doing. And I think after Clueless, for a minute I got a little stressed and made it more intellectual or something. I had about three or four years of this strange feeling,’ she recalled, looking back at the end of the decade.

‘Acting is important to me, but I have taken breaks from it at times, and then come back to it because I loved it so much. I’ve figured out that you can do all the things.’

Silverstone can currently be seen in the Acorn TV crime drama Irish Blood.

She’ll soon appear in Yorgos Lanthimos’ Bugonia (Oct. 24) and the Netflix holiday rom-com A Merry Little Ex-Mas (Nov. 12).

She’s also set to reprise her iconic role in the upcoming Clueless sequel series, where she serves as executive producer.
