Alleged Billionaire Spy Romance Raises Honeytrap Concerns Around Nvidia

Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang allegedly had a romantic relationship with a Chinese businesswoman whom US intelligence suspects of working for Beijing, according to a newly reported American intelligence memo.

The claim has prompted concerns that the 63-year-old billionaire may have been targeted in a so-called honey trap operation aimed at one of the most influential figures in the global technology industry.

Huang is alleged to have become romantically involved with Alice Huang, an executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed. The two are not related.

Megaspeed, a significant Nvidia customer, had already attracted scrutiny over allegations that it helped move restricted US-made artificial intelligence chips into China.

US intelligence agencies reportedly believe Alice Huang was recruited by China’s Ministry of State Security, the country’s main civilian intelligence service, to collect information about Jensen Huang and possibly influence his views.

The allegations were reported by the Financial Times, which said American officials prepared a classified memo about the suspected relationship earlier this year.

According to the report, the memo drew on intelligence collected by US agencies and was shared with a limited number of senior officials shortly before President Donald Trump’s May visit to Beijing, where he held talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The account goes beyond an earlier report from The New York Times, which said Jensen Huang had formed a “close relationship” with the Chinese executive but did not characterize it as romantic.

The alleged relationship between Nvidia billionaire Jensen Huang and Alice Huang has fueled concerns that the technology executive was targeted in a Chinese intelligence operation

The Financial Times is the first outlet to report that US officials believe the relationship was intimate, adding to concerns that the Nvidia founder may have been the focus of a Chinese espionage effort.

It is not known whether US intelligence believes Jensen Huang was aware of any alleged connection between Alice Huang and Beijing, or whether confidential information was ever shared.

Alice Huang has not been accused of knowingly cooperating with Chinese intelligence, and the reported romance has not been independently confirmed.

Nvidia has declined to comment on the alleged relationship or the reported intelligence memo.

The company has previously rejected suggestions that Jensen Huang’s dealings with Alice Huang were unusual, saying they reflected the normal duties of a chief executive who leads a global technology business.

“Jensen’s interactions with Ms. Huang are not unusual or unexpected,” a spokesman previously told the Daily Mail.

“Meetings with customers are part of a CEO’s job; Jensen talks with thousands of customer executives every year.”

The pair were photographed together at a Taipei bar in June 2024. Huang was wearing his familiar black leather jacket and drinking whiskey alongside other technology executives.

Alice Huang was seated next to the Nvidia chief at the gathering, which took place after a technology trade exhibition. NetThunder later posted photographs from the event on LinkedIn.

The two were reportedly seen together again in May 2025, leaving a Taipei restaurant after a dinner attended by artificial intelligence suppliers.

The Times reported that Alice Huang waited nearby while Jensen Huang spoke to reporters outside the restaurant.

The claims have heightened concern in Washington because of Huang’s considerable influence over the AI sector and his unusually close relationship with President Trump.

Nvidia, which is valued at more than $5 trillion, makes the advanced processors that power many of the world’s most sophisticated artificial intelligence systems.

Those chips have also become central to the intensifying US-China technology conflict, as Washington seeks to stop Beijing from obtaining processors that could strengthen its military capabilities.

Huang has repeatedly urged Trump to ease restrictions on Nvidia’s advanced chip sales to China. He has argued that allowing American companies to compete in the Chinese market would help limit the influence of domestic rivals such as Huawei.

He also personally lobbied Trump to approve exports of Nvidia’s powerful H200 processors, despite objections from some national security officials.

The Trump administration later approved some sales under specific conditions, although shipments had reportedly been paused by the time Trump met Xi in May.

According to the Times, Chinese intelligence allegedly recruited Alice Huang to obtain insight into US artificial intelligence technology and potentially shape Nvidia’s approach to supplying advanced processors to China.

Megaspeed was separated from a Chinese gaming company in 2023 before moving into the fast-growing business of operating AI data centers.

The company has faced questions over allegations that advanced Nvidia chips were redirected to China in breach of US export controls.

Nvidia previously examined those claims and said its investigation found no evidence of misconduct.

A company spokesman has also said that regional cloud customers receive routine commercial information, not confidential Nvidia secrets or material connected to US national security.

The reported intelligence assessment has nevertheless prompted calls for Jensen Huang to answer questions before Congress.

Republican lawmakers Brian Mast, John Moolenaar and Rick Crawford, who lead three influential House committees, have asked Huang to appear at a closed-door briefing on November 18.

The lawmakers want details about Huang’s contact with Alice Huang and the safeguards Nvidia has put in place to defend against foreign intelligence activity.

Their request follows earlier reporting by the Times that US intelligence agencies had electronically monitored Alice Huang for at least 12 months.

Trump was reportedly informed last year about the Chinese executive’s suspected activities and her connection to the Nvidia chief, but is said to have decided against taking action.

Even with the intelligence concerns surrounding the case, Huang has maintained unusually close access to the president.

He was initially left off the list of American business leaders expected to accompany Trump to Beijing in May.

However, after realizing that the Nvidia chief was not included, Trump reportedly called him. Huang then traveled to Alaska and boarded Air Force One during a stopover.

Huang later attended the state dinner Trump held for Xi during the Chinese president’s visit to Washington in September.

China has previously rejected the espionage claims, describing them as unsupported.

The Daily Mail has approached Nvidia and the White House for comment.
