An Illinois man is currently in custody after allegedly attempting to attack a commuter with a knife, claiming he was an operative for the CIA.
The suspect, 25-year-old Zakir Ibrahim, faces charges of attempted murder following his arrest in Chicago on Tuesday, March 3, according to reports from CWB Chicago.
Authorities report that Ibrahim approached an Amtrak passenger at Union Station in Chicago, threatening the individual by holding a knife to their nose before attempting to slash their throat.

Legal documents reviewed by the news outlet reveal that prosecutors claim Ibrahim initially pressed the knife against the victim’s face before stepping back and attempting the attack, narrowly missing the victim’s throat by less than an inch.
In a detention filing obtained by the outlet, prosecutors said Ibrahim held a knife to the victim’s face, took a step back and began trying to slash the victim’s throat, “only narrowly missing the victim’s throat by less than an inch.”
The victim narrowly escaped the alleged attack and “had to lean back to avoid his throat being cut,” the petition reportedly said.Â
Ibrahim allegedly claimed to be a CIA agent and said he believed the victim was a hitman, causing him to attack the train passenger, the outlet reported.Â
