American Airlines Jet Suffers Brake Failure, Blown Tire After Landing at Chicago O’Hare: FAA

An American Airlines flight arriving from Spain encountered a brake problem and a blown tire after landing Tuesday afternoon at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

American Airlines Flight 41, a Boeing 787-800 flying from Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat Airport, touched down safely at O’Hare at about 2:30 p.m. local time, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told News Media in a statement.

According to the FAA, the crew reported a brake issue after landing, followed by “a blown tire.”

Passengers left the aircraft using stairs and were taken by bus to the terminal, the FAA said. The agency added that it “will investigate.”

The airline reported that 234 passengers and 11 crew members were on board.

American Airlines said first responders met the plane “out of an abundance of caution.” Passengers were then safely transported to the terminal by bus.

The aircraft has been removed from service while American Airlines maintenance personnel inspect it. The airline apologized to customers for the disruption.

The cause of the reported brake malfunction has not been determined.

The Chicago Fire Department did not immediately respond to News Media’s request for comment.
