() President Donald Trump’s approval rating at 100 days in office is the second-lowest in modern history, beat only by his approval rating in his first term.

The president started out with lower approval ratings than previous presidents and experienced a dramatic plunge in approval as his administration moved at top speed to enact policies around immigration and tariffs.

At 100 days, a new NPR/PBS/Marist poll found 45% of people would give Trump a failing grade and just 23% would give him an A.

Polling data from Real Clear Polling showed Trump with a 52.5% disapproval rating.

The road to Trump’s high disapproval rating started halfway through his first 100 days. He entered office with a 40% disapproval rating.

That rating began to change at several points, including polls conducted after Trump announced his reciprocal tariffs, bringing warnings of a recession and trade disruptions.

The economy is an area where Trump’s polling has suffered. When he first took office only 36% of people disapproved of his handling of the economy, a number that began rapidly climbing to the current 55.3% disapproval rating.

On inflation, Trump’s approval rating dropped from 48% at the start of his term to 38.6% in recent polling.

One area where Trump saw some gains was immigration, with early numbers showing around 46% approval and latest polling coming in at 47.8%, a very slight uptick.
