Andrew Cuomo ruthlessly mocked for glaring oversight on social media

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo faced harsh ridicule on social media as he attempts to revive his mayoral campaign after a surprising loss in the Democratic primary.

The 67-year-old, now an independent candidate in New York City’s mayoral race, tried to refresh his campaign image on Wednesday by unveiling a new logo designed to symbolize a sunrise and the Statue of Liberty’s crown.

X user Anthony M. Emerson hesitantly acknowledged, ‘Despite everything, I actually like the new logo. The sun rising over the crown of the Statue of Liberty is quite impressive.’

Cuomo then reposted the comment, writing: ‘Thank you, we worked hard on it.’

However, Cuomo’s re-post now includes Emerson’s username ‘Andrew Cuomo Is a Sex Pest.’

It was unclear whether he changed the username after the former governor shared his remarks.

Either way, many online found the dichotomy amusing.

One X user commented that Cuomo clearly ‘did not work hard on checking the username of the quote tweets,’ while another encouraged Emerson to ‘keep it up.’

A third simply wrote, ‘brooo’ with a gif of Peyton Manning saying ‘C’mon man.’

Cuomo was forced to resign in disgrace as governor in 2021 following a damning Attorney General report that found he was a serial sexual harasser.

He adamantly denied the accusations that he had groped anyone, but said it was in the best interest for New York State for him to step down so that state officials could refocus their efforts on the COVID pandemic.

In a 20-minute speech, he addressed his three daughters, calling them his ‘jewels’ and saying he had ‘made mistakes and learned from them’, but insisting he was not the serial abuser the report made him out to be.

‘I want my three jewels to know this: my greatest goal is for them to have a better future than the generations of women before them,’ Cuomo said at the time.

‘It is still in many ways a man’s world. It always has been. We have sexism that is culturized and institutionalized.’

He then went on to claim that he ‘never did or would intentionally disrespect a woman or treat any woman differently that I would want them treated.’

Speaking again to his daughters, Cuomo insisted: ‘Your dad made mistakes and he apologized and he learned from it.

‘That’s what life is all about.’

But just about four years after that speech, Cuomo announced he was running for mayor, arguing that ‘New York City is the greatest city in the world’ but ‘it is in trouble.’

‘The city just feels threatening, out of control. These conditions exist not as an act of God, but rather as an act of our political leaders,’ he said in March.

‘Or more precisely, the lack of intelligent action by many of our political leaders,’ he said, referring to the Big Apple’s current Mayor Eric Adams, despite not mentioning him directly.

Cuomo’s campaign, though, never gained traction and was plagued by the former governor’s answer about his favorite bagel while self-described socialist Zohran Mamdani gained popularity with his woke policies.

The 33-year-old has said he wants to raise taxes on millionaires and corporations by $9 billion to subsidize his plans for fare-free buses, free child care and housing.

Mamdani, who is currently serving in the New York State Legislature, also wants to spend $65 million on transgender care and has pushed populist ideas including grocery stores that would be owned by the city.

Additionally, the controversial figure has advocated for defunding the city’s police department – but vowed to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he were to set foot in the Big Apple.

The messaging appears to have swayed New York City voters, as Mamdani proved victorious over Cuomo in the June Democratic primary.

He is now running against incumbent Mayor Eric Adams on the independent line, and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa

Yet Cuomo is not backing down, as he vowed to run in the general election as an independent alongside incumbent Mayor Adams, while Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa runs on the Republican line.

Speaking to business leaders on Wednesday, the former governor admitted he did not work hard enough to garner support in the Democratic primary and suggested he learned from his defeat, the New York Times reports.

Cuomo told the members of Partnership for New York, a group that represents some of the Big Apple’s most powerful business leaders that he has been campaigning throughout the five boroughs more than ever before.

He also brought out pollster Douglas Schoen, who highlighted Adam’s dwindling poll numbers and data regarding negative views of Mamdani as Cuomo sought to make a case for his path to victory.

The former governor then said that if he were not the strongest candidate in the polls, he would ‘defer’ to Adams and suggested that the current mayor and ‘maybe’ even Sliwa agree to the same deal.

He also proposed that either he or Adams drop out in September, depending on who is polling better – though Adams has not agreed to those terms.
