HURRICANE, WV (WOWK) — Annually, hundreds of motorcyclists traverse the Mountain State en route to the nation’s capital, paying tribute to the courageous individuals who never returned home from military service.

Many of these riders, some veterans themselves, participate in the “Run for the Wall” event, riding their motorcycles in honor of those who cannot. As Memorial Day approaches, the group made a stop this spring at Hurricane City Park, where community members warmly welcomed them.

The ride is a solemn tribute to fallen service members. Starting from California, riders embark on a cross-country journey to Washington, D.C., gathering more participants along the way. In West Virginia, the group alternates their stops between Nitro and Hurricane each year.

“After eight days on the road, you feel a lot of emotions. There was a lady who greeted us saying, ‘Thank you, our heroes.’ I don’t see myself as a hero, but witnessing such support is inspiring. If we can help even one person find healing through this journey, then our mission is fulfilled,” expressed Todd Taylor, the West Virginia State coordinator for Run for the Wall.
