Melania Trump is no stranger to making bold fashion choices, but her latest ensemble has sparked quite a conversation. The First Lady’s attire at the Governors Dinner in Washington, D.C., became a hot topic of discussion.

At the event, Melania, 55, opted for a striking pair of metallic silver trousers by Dolce & Gabbana, a designer she frequently favors. The eye-catching cigarette-style brocade pants come with a hefty price tag of $2,395, marking a departure from the usual evening wear expectations.

Completing her outfit, Melania paired the trousers with a sophisticated long-sleeve, black tie-neck blouse, also from Dolce & Gabbana, which is priced at $2,245.

Traditionally, a black-tie dress code calls for floor-length gowns for women, as noted by fashion authority Vogue. Melania’s choice certainly defied convention, adding a touch of modern flair to the formal affair.

An event with a black-tie dress code usually constitutes a floor-length gown for women, according to Vogue.

To bring together her daring ensemble, Melania added sky-high, metallic silver Christian Louboutin heels and large diamond earrings.

Meanwhile, President Trump, 79, opted for a traditional black tuxedo and black bowtie, as he told the Governors that they had done ‘really good work’.

Melania’s ‘inappropriate’ silver pants left fans bitterly divided.

Many people seemed to agree that the trousers were not appropriate for the black-tie occasion, as they took to social media to voice their opinions.

‘I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, someone needs to replace her stylist. Black tie doesn’t mean disco ready,’ one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Another agreed, ‘Inappropriate for black tie.’

‘That outfit is loud and tacky and definitely not black tie. Neither one of them have taste,’ someone else chimed in.

One typed, ‘Looks like she’s going on a picnic. How disgraceful.’

‘While she looks beautiful (as always), I am old-fashioned and prefer dresses for certain events,’ another wrote.

Others, however, disagreed, coming to the First Lady’s defense and writing just how much they loved the striking pair of pants.

‘Melania is her own unique person! She wears what she wants to wear and likes what she likes. She is not dressing to impress, but rather to express herself. I think she looks wonderful and couldn’t look bad if she tried!’ one person added.

‘I love how she is in these pants for a dinner. They are beautiful and she dresses up and rocks everything she puts on,’ another typed.

Someone else commented, ‘Absolutely love the outfit!!! As always she is stunning.’

The First Lady’s latest controversial fashion mishap comes just days after she was mocked for wearing a pair of hugely oversized black sunglasses while she stepped off Air Force One in the middle of the night with Trump.

Melania was wearing them at around 11pm in the dead of winter, when it was completely dark outside.

Melania paired her oversized shades with a large gray wrap coat, black leather gloves, and black lace-up boots.

The First Lady’s strange fashion choice drew criticism on social media as many people seemed to be confused about why she would wear sunglasses in the dead of night.

Late last month, her self-titled documentary premiered in theaters across the country.

The movie follows the First Lady in the 20 days leading up to Trump’s inauguration in January 2025.

Amazon secured the film for $40 million – the largest documentary deal in history – after beating rivals Disney, Netflix and Paramount in a ferocious bidding war.
