In a remarkable stroke of luck, a missing man in New Jersey owes his survival to an Apple AirTag. This small device played a crucial role in guiding emergency crews to his location after he disappeared in Hoboken.

Captured on body camera footage from New Jersey Transit Police, the dramatic rescue unfolded as officers and firefighters worked together to lift the man from a 40-foot drop in an icy ravine in Jersey City. Using ropes and a board, they successfully hoisted him to safety last Friday.

HOBOKEN, New Jersey (PIX11) — A man is lucky to be alive after his Apple AirTag helped emergency response teams find him after he went missing in New Jersey.

Body camera footage from New Jersey Transit Police shows the moment officers and firefighters used ropes and a board to hoist the man up 40 feet from an icy ravine in Jersey City on Friday.

Police had been searching for the man since Thursday, when they finally heard his AirTag pinging around 8:40 a.m. on Friday, officials reported.

He was found near the Ninth Street NJ Transit station after he fell down an icy embankment on the Hoboken-Jersey City border, according to transit police. He was too injured to move and had been exposed to freezing temperatures for hours.

The man was taken to the hospital with injuries but was expected to survive.
