Season 2 of Noel Fielding‘s Apple TV+ comedy The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin apparently will not be completed as it will not see the light of day.
The Sun was the first to announce that Fielding stopped showing up for work after production was put on hold over Christmas. This happened shortly after Season 2 filming began in the fall of 2024. According to the report, those involved in the show were recently informed of its abrupt end. The reason given was the “illness of a key cast member.”
An insider from the TV industry informed the outlet that the crew was shocked and angered by this surprise announcement because the production of the show required a significant investment of money, time, and effort. The sudden halt to the project means that the entire team is now without work and needs to seek new job opportunities. However, they have not yet received a comprehensive explanation for the decision.
Citing a source close to the project, Variety reports that the show’s second season has “ceased production,” and though the next installment was about three months into filming, it will likely not be able to come back from this. The outlet also cited intel from another source, who said that Apple and Big Talk Studios did “everything they could” to finish the show and had been “really excited about it.”
DECIDER reached out to Apple reps and Fielding’s publicist for additional comment, but did not hear back by time of publication.
Season 2 was announced by the streamer in July 2024, four months after the series debuted in March of the same year. Following a Television Critics Association Winter 2024 panel for the comedy series, The Great British Baking Show host had told DECIDER he felt confident he could handle filming both the Apple TV+ series and the baking show.
“I think you can do both. I think it’s not ridiculous,” he said at the time. Fielding and Dick Turpin executive producer Kenton Allen also expressed to DECIDER their interest in a sophomore season.
The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin featured the talents of Fielding as “legendary highwayman Dick Turpin,” as well as Ellie White, Marc Wootton, Hugh Bonneville, Duayne Boachie, Mark Heap and Michael Fielding.
Season 1 of The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is streaming on Apple TV+.
