() One person is dead after two small jets collided on the ground Monday afternoon at a suburban Phoenix airport.

A Learjet 35A veered off the runway after landing at Scottsdale Municipal Airport and struck a Gulfstream 200 business jet on the ramp around 2:45 p.m. local time, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

In addition to the person killed, three others were taken to the hospital, and emergency crews were working to extricate one person on an aircraft, officials said.

The FAA temporarily paused flights into the airport.

The accident in Arizona follows a series of deadly U.S. aviation crashes in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and western Alaska.
