Armie Hammer revealed that there was a period in his life when he smoked up to 20 joints a day and admitted to enjoying the act of getting others high on marijuana, including his fellow actor Johnny Depp.

The 38-year-old former Hollywood star shared these revelations on his recent podcast episode of Armie HammerTime, as he reflected on the extravagant lifestyle he once led.

He humorously remarked, ‘I took pleasure in getting people excessively high. I enjoyed smoking marijuana with others until they reached a point of saying, “I’m so stoned, I can’t find my feet”…’

‘I loved marijuana roofie-ing people. I think at that point of my life I was smoking upwards of 15 to 20 joints a day.’

The term ‘roofie’ refers to Rohypnol, a powerful sedative that has been illegally used to incapacitate victims, often in the context of sexual assault.

He also admitted his heavy marijuana use once caused problems while promoting The Lone Ranger, the 2013 Disney-released film in which he starred opposite Johnny Depp (the duo pictured in 2015)

Armie, who rose to fame playing the Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, and went on to star in acclaimed films such as Call Me By Your Name and Nocturnal Animals, made the remark in a light-hearted tone.

He did not clarify whether those involved knew how much cannabis they were consuming.

His podcast co-host Ashton Ramsey said: ‘The most trouble that you ever got into was when you basically got Johnny super stoned before a press junket.’

Armie replied: ‘They never let me hang out with Johnny on the press tour after that. They would always keep us apart. They never let us do press together. They were like, “You two cannot hang out anymore!”’

Ashton, a former assistant who joined Hammer on the film’s global press tour, reminisced with him about the lifestyle they enjoyed at the time – complete with first-class travel, indulgent meals and constant access to anything they wanted.

Armie said: ‘They were good days. The amount of money that got spent in this time in Hollywood was just exorbitant. It was unbelievable. It was offensive.’

He added that during the press tour he was given his own private jet by Disney and ‘basically travelled the world twice.’.

He claimed Johnny’s jet was even more lavish than his: ‘They got him the craziest jet I’ve ever seen. [It] had a movie theatre in it. The guy who owned the jet was a serious smoker, and Johnny smokes cigarettes constantly….

‘He lights one off of the other one he just finished kind of thing, all day. And they needed to get a plane for Johnny that he was allowed to smoke in…

‘I remember walking up the stairs, and as I got four feet from the door of the plane… cigarette smoke just hit me in the face. I walked onto the plane, and it was like yellow air from everyone just sitting in there smoking.’

Armie said they would often be flown in and out of cities within hours, and catered with whatever food they requested – no matter how extravagant: ‘You’d get in at five in the afternoon, and we’d leave at two in the morning…

‘They would always say: “What do you want for when we take off?” We’d be like, I don’t know, Nobu and McDonald’s? And they’re like, no problem. We got you 30 Big Macs and a bunch of Nobu sushi…

‘It was such a bizarre experience. I think there are people who legitimately only travel like that. Like Bezos, Musk, or even lesser billionaires or centimillionaires. I think that’s the only way they travel, which is really wild.’

The podcast is Armie’s most high-profile public project since his acting career was derailed by a string of allegations in 2021.

Several women accused him of emotional abuse and coercive behaviour, including the non-consensual sharing of violent sexual fantasies.

Text messages allegedly sent by Hammer appeared to reference cannibalism and domination. He denied all allegations and was never charged with any crime.

Later that year, he checked into a rehab facility in Florida for treatment related to drug, alcohol, and sex issues. A source told People at the time that his focus was on ‘being sober and co-parenting his kids’ with then-wife Elizabeth Chambers.

Armie was married to television host and entrepreneur Elizabeth for a decade before their split in 2020. Their divorce was finalised in early 2023. The former couple share two children: daughter Harper, now 10, and son Ford, seven.

Since the separation, Armie has been linked to several women, including model Paige Lorenze and dental hygienist Lisa Perejma.
