OREM, Utah (ABC4) The Utah Attorney General’s Office has released the arrest documents for Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the assassination of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk. The documents detail the series of events leading up to and following Kirk’s murder.

Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested in Washington County, Utah, on aggravated murder, a first-degree felony; felony discharge of a firearm – causing serious bodily injury, a first-degree felony; and obstruction of justice – capital/first-degree felony conduct, a second-degree felony.

On Sept. 10, Charlie Kirk appeared to speak at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University. He was wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants, sitting under a canopy in a campus courtyard facing east.

At 12:23 p.m., while Kirk was holding a microphone and speaking to a crowd of hundreds of individuals, a loud gunshot was heard. Kirk was struck in the neck, and immediately began bleeding profusely from the wound.

He was taken to Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem, where he was pronounced deceased.

Investigators reviewed Utah Valley University surveillance footage, and found that an individual had been located on the rooftop of the Losee Center building on campus at the time of the shooting. Footage also showed the suspect to be a White male with dark hair, a dark hat, sunglasses, a long-sleeved black shirt with a picture of an American flag and eagle, dark jeans, and white/gray shoes with white shoelaces. He was reportedly also carrying a dark backpack.

Prior to the shooting, footage shows the suspect, now identified as Robinson, walk with a stiff right leg and at a relatively slow pace. His ability to bend his right leg appeared to be restricted, police said.

Investigators were able to track the suspect’s movements starting at 11:50 a.m. on Sept. 10. He is first captured on video walking across a grassy area north of Campus Drive at around 800 West. He then walked south through a parking lot and approached a pedestrian tunnel that runs underneath Campus Drive.

Before entering the tunnel, at 11:53 a.m., the suspect paused at the top of the stairs and pulled out what appeared to be a cell phone from his right pocket. He then made his way toward Losee Center. At about 12:02 p.m., the suspect is seen walking on the north side of Losee Center and entering the building through a set of doors on the southeast corner.

At 12:15 p.m., the suspect is captured on surveillance walking up stairs that lead to a common area adjacent to the Losee Center building. He then walked to a short concrete wall that separates the common area from the rooftop.

At about 12:17 p.m., the suspect climbed over the short wall and appeared to crouch down on the north side of the wall on the rooftop. At 12:22 p.m., he stood up and started running across the roof of Losee Center. He ran to the west side of the rooftop and appeared to scoot along the roof as he got closer to the edge of the building, where he laid down in a prone shooting position.

At about 12:23 p.m., Kirk was shot. Surveillance footage shows the suspect suddenly stand up from the edge of the rooftop and sprint north on the roof. He ran to the northeast corner of the building and lowered himself down, dropping to the grass below.

At about 12:24 p.m., he ran across Campus Drive, appearing to be carrying an item. Investigators later discovered a bolt-action rifle wrapped in a dark towel in this area, which is grassy with trees. The rifle was determined to be a Mauser Model 98, .30-06 caliber, with a mounted scope.

Investigators noted inscriptions that had been engraved on casings found with the rifle. A fired casing read “Notices Buldge OWO what’s this?” while three unfired casings read, “hey fascist! CATCH! (up arrow symbol, right arrow symbol, and three down arrow symbols).” Another unfired casing read “O Bella ciao, Bella ciao, Bella ciao, Ciao, ciao!” A third unfired casing read “If you read This, you are GAY Lmao.”

Investigators also reviewed more footage of UVU surveillance and found Robinson arriving on campus in a grey Dodge Challenger at around 8:29 p.m. on Sept. 10. He is observed on video in a plain maroon t-shirt, light-colored shorts, a black hat with a white logo, and light-colored shoes.

Investigators also discovered a shoe impression on the northeast corner of the rooftop edge of the Losee Center building. The impression was located in the vicinity where the suspect climbed down from the rooftop.

On the night of Sept. 11, a family member of Tyler Robinson reached out to a family friend, who contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with information that Robinson had confessed to them that he had committed the shooting. The information was conveyed to multiple agencies, including the FBI.

According to an interview with a family member of Robinson, Robinson had “become more political in recent years,” a probable cause affidavit states. “The family member referenced a recent incident in which Robinson came to dinner, prior to September 10, 2025, and in conversation with another family member, Robinson mentioned Charlie Kirk was coming to UVU. They talked about why they didn’t like him and the viewpoints he had. The family member also stated Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate. The family member also confirmed Robinson had a grey Dodge Challenger.”

Investigators also identified an individual as the roommate of Robinson and conducted an interview. The roommate showed police multiple messages on Discord, a social platform used for text, voice, and video chats.

Messages reportedly showed Robinson stating a need to retrieve a rifle from a drop point, leaving the rifle in a bush, messages related to visually watching the area where a rifle was left, and a message referring to having left the rifle wrapped in a towel. The messages also refer to engraving bullets, and a mention of a scope and the rifle being unique. Messages from Robinson also mention that he had changed outfits.

In the early morning hours of Sept. 12, investigators found Robinson in person wearing clothing consistent with what was seen on the additional surveillance footage from the evening of Sept. 10.

Robinson was booked into Utah County Jail on the aforementioned charges.
