Hector Munoz-Ochoa, 24, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to the murder of his mother, Lilian Ochoa-Menjivar, who was 55 years old.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The son of a woman fatally stabbed at a Jacksonville home on Saturday has been arrested and charged with his mother’s murder, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday.

Hector Munoz-Ochoa, 24, is charged with second-degree murder in connection to the murder of his mother, Lilian Ochoa-Menjivar, who was 55 years old.

Around 3 p.m. Sunday, JSO said officers responded to a home on Peach Drive in reference to assisting the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. After arriving, JSO said officers found a woman, now identified as Ochoa-Menjivar, suffering from multiple stab wounds. A JSO spokesperson said she died at the scene.

JSO said Tuesday that Munoz-Ochoa was “quickly” identified as the suspect in the murder, though the agency did not provide details about how they linked him to the crime.

According to Munoz-Ochoa’s arrest report, the 24-year-old was Baker Acted in 2020 for “threatening self-harm with a knife.” And in 2022, the report says Munoz-Ochoa was admitted to a state hospital, where he was diagnosed with malingering, schizophrenia and moderate cannabis use disorder.

According to jail records, Munoz-Ochoa will make his first appearance in court on Sept. 16 at 9 a.m. for his arraignment.
