The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 62-year-old Samuel O’Neal Gardner. He’s currently in custody at the St. Johns County Jail, facing six charges.
ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A driver the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office (SJSO) said was pointing a gun at vehicles on I-95 in the county on Monday has been arrested, the sheriff’s office announced on Facebook Friday.
Samuel O’Neal Gardner, 62, is in custody at the St. Johns County Jail and is charged with improper exhibition of a firearm, reckless driving, three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and fleeing and eluding, according to SJSO.
The sheriff’s office said Gardner was first spotted “driving recklessly and pointing a firearm at vehicles” on the interstate in Duval County before he entered St. Johns County, adding that the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office received numerous 911 calls about him.
“When SJSO Deputies attempted to stop the driver, identified as Gardner, he fled while pointing the firearm at several law enforcement officers,” SJSO’s post states. “Gardner eventually crashed south of SR16. He was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries, where he spent several days.”
