With a tentative ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas in place, President Donald Trump is shifting his focus toward resolving Russia’s ongoing conflict with Ukraine. He is contemplating the provision of long-range weaponry to Kyiv as a strategic move to encourage Moscow to engage in negotiations.
In his campaign for the 2024 presidential election, Trump has consistently criticized President Joe Biden for his management of international conflicts, specifically those in Ukraine and Gaza. Despite his efforts, Trump has faced challenges similar to Biden’s in persuading Russian President Vladimir Putin to enter direct discussions with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The war, approaching its fourth year, remains unresolved.
Nevertheless, buoyed by the recent ceasefire in Gaza, Trump is optimistic about making progress in curtailing Russia’s military actions in Ukraine. He has indicated a willingness to increase pressure on Putin should the Russian leader continue to resist diplomatic engagement.
