The school district is asking for help from parents as they look to make schedule changes.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Some schools could let out as late as 6:30 p.m. under a proposal in Duval County Public Schools.
The district sent out a proposed schedule that it says aligns with a state law that pushes school start and end times.
Under the law, high school starts at 8:30 a.m. or later, and middle school at 8 a.m. or later, starting in the 2026-2027 school year.
According to the chart sent by the district, middle schools already start at the designated time, but could still be impacted.
High schools would need to push back their start times, and under this proposal could get out as late as 5:15 p.m.
For magnet schools, it could be as late as 6:30 p.m.
The school district wants families to weigh in. You can voice your opinion on the online survey, until February 14.
