In Austin, Texas, two individuals have been apprehended, and authorities are actively pursuing a third suspect linked to a spree of at least 10 random shootings over the weekend. These incidents, which included attacks on fire stations, resulted in four people being injured, officials announced on Sunday.
In response to the ongoing threat, the city had earlier instructed residents in a significant portion of Austin’s southern region to remain indoors. However, this precautionary measure was lifted later in the day after the Austin Police Department confirmed the detention of two suspects through a statement posted on X.
The series of shootings unfolded from Saturday night into Sunday morning. Among the targets were two fire stations, with the attacks leaving one individual seriously injured and three others sustaining minor injuries, according to Police Chief Lisa Davis.
Chief Davis noted that the suspects also appeared to be engaged in vehicle thefts as they moved through the city.
“At this point, we have not identified a specific motive,” remarked Mayor Kirk Watson. “The acts seem to be random, with the suspects seemingly switching vehicles during their rampage.”
Davis said at least four vehicles were used by the suspects.
