Surviving Australia terror suspect slapped with charges in wake of deadly attack

A 24-year-old man and his 50-year-old father have been implicated in a terror attack in Australia on Sunday, and the son now faces a series of serious charges, as announced on Wednesday.

The charges against the son include “15 counts of murder” and “40 counts of causing wounding or grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.” He also faces accusations of committing a terrorist act, discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, displaying prohibited terrorist organization symbols publicly, and placing explosives near a building with intent to cause harm, according to official statements.

The father was shot and killed by police at the scene, while the son, who was critically injured, is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital.

This tragic incident led to the loss of 15 lives and left several others injured, including two police officers who were shot during the attack.

Of those who have passed away, “police believe their ages range between 10 and 87,” the releases state.

The attack “was an act of pure evil,” “antisemitism,” and “terrorism” that was “deliberately targeted at the Jewish community on the first day of Hanukkah,” Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has said.
