BLUE ISLAND, Ill. (WLS) — In a dramatic turn of events on Wednesday morning, an attempted heist targeting an armored truck outside a bank in the south suburbs prompted a significant police presence.
According to a city official from Blue Island, the incident unfolded in the parking lot of a U.S. Bank situated at 11960 S. Western Ave.

At this time, authorities have not apprehended any suspects in connection with the attempted robbery. Fortunately, bank employees and bystanders were unharmed during the ordeal.
Witnesses reported seeing Chopper 7 hovering over the scene around 10:30 a.m., capturing images of the area cordoned off by police tape as the investigation continues. The community remains on alert as law enforcement works diligently to piece together the events leading up to the attempted theft.

There were also evidence markers on the ground, a large gun visible on the sidewalk and a door on the bank appeared to be shattered.
Someone who lives nearby said they heard about six gunshots in the area.
An employee at the Old National Bank across the street said they are on lockdown.
Police appeared to be blocking part of the roadway in front of the bank, as well.
The FBI is handling the investigation.
The US Bank will be closed for the remainder of Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the bank said no employees were involved.
