An illegal immigrant stands accused of brutally murdering two women in separate incidents on Long Island, leaving a trail of devastation before calmly confessing his actions to the authorities. Rony Yahir Alvarenga Rivera, 22, is alleged to have committed these heinous acts, targeting a coworker and his roommate in what police have described as savage attacks.

The first victim, a 42-year-old coworker, was reportedly attacked at a Wendy’s in Island Park, Nassau County. According to News 12, the incident occurred just after midnight on Friday as the victim was taking out the trash. Rivera allegedly ambushed and fatally stabbed her, leaving the community in shock.

Hours later, the second murder unfolded in Valley Stream, where Rivera allegedly claimed the life of a 32-year-old woman on Mineola Avenue. The relationship between Rivera and this victim remains unclear, although they had been living together, according to Nassau County police.

Rivera entered the United States illegally in 2016 at the age of 12. The nature of these brutal acts and Rivera’s subsequent calm confession have left many grappling with the senselessness of the violence and the questions surrounding his motivations.

Rivera, who came to the US illegally in 2016 at age 12, was living with his second victim, although police said the exact nature of their relationship isn’t clear.

Both women suffered savage stab wounds to the neck and torso.

Rivera then reportedly called the police and told them what he had done.

“While we were at the scene, we received information that an individual was stopped at 169 Atlantic Avenue in Lynbrook,” Det. Lt. George Darienzo said.
