Barry Bonds is putting up prolific numbers in another sport

Baseball’s controversial home run king has impressed followers with his dominance in a different sport for over a decade.

Barry Bonds, the ex-player for the Giants and Pirates, has been catching the eye of Strava users with his remarkable cycling achievements. He started cycling in 2010 and has been posting some impressive numbers ever since.

Bonds has racked up more than 2,100 rides since then, and his numbers on the app show that he’s spent more than 150 days biking and his miles covered would be enough to circle the world twice — and then some, according to SF Gate.

The seven-time National League MVP has posted times on the app that put him in the top 10 for fastest rides for several stretches of road throughout the Bay Area, which has led to people chiming in on social media and following along with Bonds on Strava.

“It’s really nice. I love it,” Bonds, 60, told the outlet. “It’s just about inspiring people to work out. That’s all it is. Like you just say you like it, give them their little thumbs-up, and it’s great. You know you’re rooting for somebody and everybody to stay in good shape.”

Several threads have popped up on Reddit discussing Bonds’ passion for cycling over the years, with users trading stories about following along with the baseball great’s rides and praising his accomplishments.

Bonds hasn’t been shy about his love of cycling, as he’s posted about it on his Instagram account.

He even credited it for helping save his life and filling a void after he retired from baseball.

“Cycling took me away from a lot of pain I was going through, a lot of personal problems,” he said in a 2015 interview with ESPN.

Bonds’ 762 career home runs are the most in MLB history, and the 73 long balls he hit in 2001 remains the single-season record.

But his ties to steroids have cast a cloud over his accomplishments and he has not been elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
