SeaWorld Orlando mourns the loss of one of its cherished orcas, Katina, who recently passed away at the age of 50.

As she transitioned into her senior years, changes in Katina’s health began to emerge. In response, SeaWorld’s animal care and medical teams dedicated themselves to her well-being, monitoring her condition closely. As her situation deteriorated, the focus shifted to ensuring her comfort and welfare.

Katina spent her final moments surrounded by the dedicated teams who had cared for her for nearly four decades. The park fondly recalled her vibrant personality, noting her playful habit of sticking out her tongue and her love for performing “speed swims” that created impressive waves.

“Katina captivated and educated millions of visitors, igniting a deeper appreciation for these magnificent creatures,” SeaWorld Orlando shared on social media. “Her passing is a profound loss for those who were fortunate to know and love her. We are grateful for the community’s support as we mourn alongside her devoted fans worldwide.”

“For many wonderful years, Katina awed and inspired millions of our guests to appreciate and learn more about this amazing species,” SeaWorld Orlando wrote. “This is an incredibly difficult time for those who knew and loved Katina. We appreciate the support of the community as we grieve her loss together with her loyal fans everywhere.”
