Black Amazon driver attacked by two white women while making delivery

A black Amazon delivery driver has been attacked by two white women after one of them let her inside a building to drop off a package.

JaMaiya Miller, 25, was attacked soon after she walked inside Belle Meade at River Oaks apartment building in a wealthy area of Houston on December 16.

Video she filmed of the assault showed two older white women accusing her of being a thief before pushing her against a wall and hitting her.

The worker said her instructions were to leave the parcel at the buyer’s door, so she got herself buzzed in to the second floor of the building.

As she was looking for the right apartment, while wearing an Amazon vest, she said the woman who let her in ‘started freaking out’ and called to a second lady.

Miller said it was the second woman who physically assaulted her, but she didn’t fight back as she feared she would get the blame.

‘This lady spewed racist tropes, like that I was a thief, and hit me several times,’ she wrote alongside the video.

‘She even threw me up against a residents door, and eventually ripped the package I’m attempting to delivery out of my hand, all unprompted,’

‘All while I did not once hit or touch her back. As much as I wanted to, I knew she would weaponize anything I did to her against me.

‘She even yells ‘she’s hitting me!’ in the video as you can literally see her hitting ME. At this same time, you can also see her fake defend herself as I, again, do not lay a single finger on her.

‘I hate that I did not get clearer video, but I was literally having to defend myself.’

The video began with Miller, still holding the package she was delivering, being confronted by the two women, who said they would call security on her.

‘We’ve had thieves here and you’re thief!’ one screamed.

Miller agreed they should call the building security – because they were harassing her. She told them to stop touching her.

Then one of the woman pushed her against the wall and the footage became chaotic as she tried to hold the lady back from hitting her.

Miller wrote she had never experienced such racist behavior, including trying to blame her for the the attack and make it look like she assaulted them.

‘Both of these were older white women, who I assume were rich based on the neighborhood and fancy apartment building, and I absolutely believe their vitriol towards me was racially motivated,’ she wrote.

‘It was so off the wall, but also completely on brand with how white women have historically weaponized their privilege.

‘The best example of this in the video is when she claims I am hitting her, while literally hitting me.

‘And it’s wild how I still felt like if I defended myself in that moment and hit her back, that I would face harsh consequences.’

Miller set up a fundraiser to help pay her bills as she was too fearful of going back to work as she couldn’t pick where she delivered to.

‘Because of this experience, I’ve had to obviously take a break from Amazon, which was my primary income, and this has all been extremely disruptive to my day to day,’ she wrote.

Miller said in an update that she filed a police report on the night of the incident, but was not contacted by investigators until 10 days later.

‘He asked lots of questions about my Amazon employment but provided no information about my assault or who the Karen is. I also plan to pursue this civilly,’ she wrote.

Miller said she was trying to get CCTV footage to back up her account of what happened, but ‘the building has not been helpful so far’.

She explained to followers sending her messages that she feared a dangerous escalation if she fought back.

‘I’m a dark skinned black woman with dreadlocks, I feared what the scene would look like if I injured an old lady and had another old lady another old lady backing her story up,’ she said.

‘Even with video, security or cops arriving on scene could have easily been hostile towards me before even asking for video.’

Houston police said the major assault division was investigating the case and would speak to all the parties involved, after which the Harris County District Attorney’s Office would decide whether to file charges.

Belle Meade at River Oaks said its policy was that all packages and parcels were to be delivered to the concierge desk.

‘To the best of our understanding, a resident mistakenly allowed the Amazon delivery driver onto a restricted-access elevator and a resident hallway within the building, where the event took place,’ it said.

Amazon confirmed Miller was wearing and Amazon vest and the company was investigating and cooperating with police.
