() – John Bolton, a national security adviser during President Donald Trump’s first term, says his former boss has put him in danger by revoking his Secret Service protection.

The former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. made the announcement Tuesday on X. Bolton had around-the-clock security because the Iranian government reportedly made credible threats to assassinate him after the killing of top Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani during Trump’s first term.

Trump fired the hawkish Bolton in 2019, and Bolton said critical things about Trump the following year in “The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir.” Trump, known for holding grudges, began his second term as president Monday.

“I am disappointed but not surprised that President Trump has decided to terminate the protection previously provided by the United States Secret Service,” Bolton wrote on X. “Notwithstanding my criticisms of President Biden’s national-security policies, he nonetheless made the decision to extend that protection to me in 2021.”

Bolton noted the Justice Department filed criminal charges against an Iranian Revolutionary Guard member in 2022 for allegedly trying to hire a hitman to target him. He said the threat remains.

“The American people can judge for themselves which President made the right call,” Bolton said.
