Boston radio hosts rail against Aaron Rodgers' final season comments: 'Douche move’

Courtney Cox of WEEI’s Greg Hill Show didn’t hold back in response to Aaron Rodgers’ early days as a Steeler.

The former MVP revealed that the 2025 season would likely be his last earlier this week on “The Pat McAfee Show.”

Cox lit him up over the airwaves this weekend.

The speaker criticized the idea that someone would claim to continue participating in a sport “just for fun” after two decades, suggesting that such a statement was a facade to announce retirement and have a farewell tour to bask in the attention. The speaker accuses the person of being self-absorbed and overly concerned with their own image.

Her co-host Greg Hill echoed the sentiment, calling Rodgers’ decision to announce his possible retirement “a douche move.”

Another individual pointed out the premature nature of declaring retirement before the start of the training camp. They mockingly mentioned the person’s willingness to be bombarded with questions about their retirement during the entire season, affecting not only themselves but also their teammates.

Cox later added that she may have been hypocritical but admitted that Rodgers himself was the driver of her reaction.

Cox said she would do the same thing if she were an athlete in Rodgers’ shoes.

“The fact that it’s Aaron Rodgers, that’s why I hate it,” she said, later adding that she’d love it if Tom Brady did the same.

The executive producer did not hold back in expressing disdain towards the highly accomplished and respected player, calling them “loathsome.” He expressed disappointment in the Steelers’ decision to welcome and support this player despite the negative sentiments surrounding them.

“It’s beneath the Steelers to bring this guy in. It’s pathetic. I hate that (head coach Mike Tomlin) is on board with it,” he added. “He’s not good anymore.”

The criticism likely won’t be unpopular given how polarizing Rodgers has become throughout his career, especially within the last half-decade or so.

Rodgers, 41, signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh and will make approximately $13.6 million in 2025.

Last season, Rodgers threw for 3,897 passing yards and 28 touchdowns to 11 interceptions while starting for the New York Jets in what was ultimately a disappointing season.
