CHICAGO (WLS) — The Chicago area is bracing for a weekend of snow and hazardous cold temperatures.

According to ABC7 Chicago’s AccuWeather Meteorologist Tracy Butler, the skies will remain overcast on Friday before snow begins to fall in the evening. While most of the region will experience a light dusting by early Saturday, areas south of Interstate 80 might see a couple of inches of snow accumulation.

Snowfall is anticipated to persist into Saturday, with forecasts indicating a southward trend, says ABC7 Chicago’s AccuWeather Meteorologist Larry Mowry. The highest likelihood for significant snowfall remains south of I-80. However, there is potential for the weather system to shift northward, which could increase snow totals closer to the city.

In light of the expected harsh conditions, ABC7 meteorologists have issued an AccuWeather Alert for the extreme cold anticipated over the weekend.
Temperatures on Saturday are forecasted to hover in the low teens and single digits during daylight hours. As night falls, temperatures are expected to plunge below zero, with windchill factors making it feel like -20 to -30 degrees.

Sunday morning, ahead of the Chicago Bears game at Soldier Field, will be the coldest part of the weekend.

While winds may relax on Sunday afternoon, it will still be bitterly cold. During the game, wind chills will be anywhere from -5 to -10.

But there is light at the end of the tunnel. A warming trend is expected next week, and temperatures may climb into the 40s by Wednesday.
