In a courageous act that likely prevented a tragedy, the principal of Pauls Valley High School in Oklahoma was shot in the leg on Tuesday after confronting an armed intruder. The incident occurred when Kirk Moore, the principal, faced a 20-year-old former student who had entered the school carrying a gun. Fortunately, no students were harmed during the frightening episode, authorities confirmed.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s spokesperson, Hunter McKee, provided details outside the school, revealing that Moore’s quick response, along with the actions of other staff members, played a crucial role in averting further danger. McKee noted, “The subject was able to fire multiple rounds, where the principal was hurt, but no one else was. The actions of the staff and the principal stepping in as soon as they saw a subject with a firearm saved lives today.”

Governor Kevin Stitt acknowledged Moore’s heroism, praising him for his brave act to safeguard students. He expressed his support, stating that he and his wife are keeping Moore in their thoughts, wishing him a speedy recovery.

The suspect, who had previously attended the school, is now in custody. The swift intervention by Moore and the school staff undoubtedly prevented what could have been a catastrophic event, highlighting the importance of vigilance and bravery in crisis situations.

Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt said Moore “acted bravely to protect students’ lives” and that he and his wife were praying for his quick recovery.

“I’m thankful for the swift response from law enforcement and school staff, and I’m grateful no students were harmed,” he said in a post on the social platform X.

Pauls Valley is a community of about 6,000 people 60 miles (96 kilometers) south of Oklahoma City.
