Six unarmed US Army soldiers were praised as heroes a day after they subdued a deranged gunman who was “actively shooting their comrades” at Georgia’s Fort Stewart base.

The troops were commended for averting further tragedy when they swiftly disarmed fellow soldier Sgt. Quornelius Radford, who allegedly initiated the attack on the base Wednesday, leaving five people wounded.

“One of the soldiers tackled the gunman, so consider this — they were unarmed and charged at and subdued an armed individual who they knew was actively targeting their comrades, their colleagues, their fellow soldiers,” Army Secretary Dan Driscoll explained as he recounted the terrifying event.

“Another soldier jumped on top of the person to subdue them until federal law enforcement was able to arrive.”

“The fast action of these soldiers under stress and under trauma and under fire absolutely saved lives from being lost,” he added.
