CARBONDALE, Kan. — An unfortunate incident unfolded on Saturday morning, resulting in four law enforcement officers being shot while attending a call at a rural residence south of Topeka, Kansas.
The shooting took place at approximately 10:30 a.m. Among the injured were three deputies from the Osage County Sheriff’s Office and a trooper from the Kansas Highway Patrol, according to Melissa Underwood, spokesperson for the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Underwood described the conditions of the officers as “still very fluid,” indicating that updates on their status are forthcoming.
In the aftermath, authorities from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the state Highway Patrol reported that a male suspect succumbed to his gunshot injuries. Another male individual was wounded and transported to a hospital, where he is currently in stable condition.
The officers were initially responding to a domestic violence call just north of Carbondale. The situation took a drastic turn after their arrival, resulting in an exchange of gunfire, as confirmed by the authorities.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded immediately to the call of the shooting, officials said.
The scene of the shooting is a house off a two-lane road that runs to Topeka. Authorities blocked off the road about six-tenths of a mile south of there.
The area of the shooting is a rural region close to U.S. Highway 75. There is no active threat to the public, Underwood said.
