Monday’s lottery prize ranks as the sixth-largest in Powerball’s history.
WASHINGTON — A staggering $1.1 billion was up for grabs in Monday night’s Powerball drawing.
This colossal jackpot has crossed the billion-dollar mark for the second time this year, following Saturday’s draw, which ended without a winner. Should a winner emerge from Monday’s drawing, they could opt for a cash payout amounting to $503.4 million.
The jackpot has been growing since September 6, when the last winners defied the daunting odds of 1 in 292.2 million.
If no ticket matches the winning numbers, the prize will continue to escalate, maintaining its position as the sixth-largest in Powerball’s history.
This year has produced three major Powerball wins: the $1.8 billion September prize, a $526.5 million jackpot claimed in California in March and a $328.5 million prize won in Oregon in January.
