Andre Myers, aged 54, is facing serious allegations as he stands accused in a tragic hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of Genesis Webber, a 13-year-old from Jacksonville. Myers has entered a plea of not guilty regarding the charges brought against him.

The incident, which has shocked the local community, occurred on September 30 on Arlington Road North. Myers is charged with a first-degree felony for leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in death, a charge that could lead to a trial.

On the day of the incident, Genesis Webber was reportedly making her way home along her usual route after stepping off her after-school activity bus. Her mother shared this information with First Coast News, highlighting the routine nature of her daughter’s journey.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has provided details of the crash, explaining that a vehicle veered off the road, hitting Genesis before barreling through a fence and leaving her in a culvert. The timeline of events suggests that the crash occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m., though Genesis was not discovered until around 9 p.m. by a passerby.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle jumped the curb and struck Genesis before smashing through a fence, leaving her in a culvert. Genesis was found by a pedestrian in the area around 9 p.m. that night, according to JSO. Evidence suggests the initial crash happened just before 7:30 p.m.

JSO’s police report said that a piece of mail found at the crash site, plus scattered Dodge Ram vehicle parts, led them to Myers and his damaged truck. He reportedly told JSO he had blacked out after drinking and did not remember anything from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. that night. He was arrested on Oct. 2.

JSO said Myers was also placed at the scene by a ping of his ankle monitor; He was out on bond for a crime back in June. An arrest report from June 1 shows Myers was charged with aggravated assault for chasing and trying to run over a man with his car at a car wash on Lem Turner Road.

Myers is due back in Duval County court for his first pre-trial hearing on Nov. 13.
