A young man in his early 20s was injured in a shooting on Jacksonville’s Westside, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Tuesday morning, a shooting incident occurred near Collins Road, resulting in the wounding of a man in his early 20s. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the details of the event.

According to JSO Sgt. Christopher Smith, the incident stemmed from a prior dispute between the victim and the suspect. The suspect, a man in his early 40s, visited the victim’s residence on Cinnamon Lakes Drive to confront him, which escalated into a violent altercation.

During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly shot the victim in the abdomen, Sgt. Smith stated.

Authorities responded to the call at approximately 12:10 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered the injured man, who was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department. Thankfully, his injuries were not life-threatening.

All parties involved, including the suspect, were detained and are cooperating with the investigation, Smith said. No arrests have been made at this time, as Smith said investigators are reviewing whether the shooting may have been done in self-defense.

Smith further told First Coast News the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and poses no threat to the community.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
