DC Police chief confirms shooter had multiple guns and knives

Interim Chief Jeffrey Carroll of the Metropolitan Police Department reported that Cole Thomas Allen, the 31-year-old suspect, allegedly tried to smuggle several weapons into the well-secured White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

During a press briefing, Carroll revealed that Allen was found in possession of a shotgun, a handgun, and an array of knives.

“Currently, it seems he acted alone as a solo gunman, and there doesn’t appear to be any ongoing threat to the public,” he stated.

Chief Carroll mentioned that the investigation is still in its early stages, making it difficult to determine Allen’s motives or who his intended targets might have been.

It is believed by investigators that the suspect had been staying at the hotel, which may have facilitated his access to the venue during the event.

Carroll said the suspect was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, but he was not struck by gunfire.
