The Bakersfield Police Department in California reported on Tuesday that a man had taken hostages inside a Chase Bank building. As of Wednesday morning, authorities had yet to announce a resolution to the standoff.

According to a press release from the department, they received a call around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday about a bomb threat at the Chase Bank located at the intersection of Chester Avenue and 17th Street. During their investigation, they discovered that an adult male had barricaded himself inside the building with several hostages.

In a scene reminiscent of a Hollywood thriller, a Bakersfield police officer worked alongside an FBI agent to coordinate sniper positions outside the bank branch in Bakersfield, California, on June 3, 2026.

Shortly after midnight Eastern Time, the police department announced via social media that they had successfully negotiated the release of a second hostage.

The FBI’s Sacramento office confirmed that they are actively assisting with the situation, highlighting the seriousness of the ongoing standoff.
