Brigitte Bardot is opening up about her lifelong battle with mental health challenges.

In a recent project that explores her personal journey, the 91-year-old French icon candidly shared her experiences with depression.

During her younger years, Bardot faced several suicide attempts. However, she recounted a particularly miraculous moment to The Times of London on Tuesday when she was unexpectedly saved from one such attempt.

“I was in the process of taking my own life when a miracle intervened and saved me,” the renowned actress revealed.

Bardot also discussed how being labeled as a sex symbol during the 1960s contributed significantly to her internal struggles.

“Every morning I wake up, and I am sad,” she admitted.

Along with being an icon in the ’50s and ’60s, Bardot starred in movies such as 1956’s “And God Created Woman,” 1960’s “The Truth” and 1965’s “Viva Maria!”

The icon also reflected on her legacy.

“I don’t care if people remember me. What I would really like is for people to remember the respect we owe to animals,” she continued, per The Times.

“The more I advance in my life, the more I fear humans. I’m more animal than human.”

The documentary, which is debuting in French theaters on Dec. 3, will feature an “intimate look” into Bardot’s life and has the “full support” of the star, the Daily Mail reported, citing IMDB.

The screen legend makes a brief cameo as well, but mainly narrates the film.

While speaking to Variety in June, director Alain Berliner, called the former model “a very mysterious person.”

Bardot opened up to an extent, so the filmmaker felt it worked “not having an outside narrator, but have Brigitte Bardot be the one who tells the story.”

Bardot’s movie comes on the heels of her shutting down rumors in October that she died.

“I don’t know who is the idiot who started this ‘fake news’ about my disappearance but know that I am doing well and I have no plan on taking my bow. A word to the wise,” she said in a post on X originally written in French.

Influencer Aqababe, whose real name is Aniss Zitouni, claimed in a since-deleted social media post that Bardot died in France.

“According to my exclusive information, Brigitte Bardot died today,” the 27-year-old wrote, per the Daily Mail.

“Her coffin was ordered in Saint-Paul-de-Jarrat in the 09 (Ariège) department,” added the influencer. “An icon has passed away, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy and an eternal imprint on the hearts of the French.”

On Oct. 16, French newspaper Var-Matin reported that Bardot had been hospitalized in Toulon, France, for nearly three weeks.

She reportedly came down with a “serious illness” during a stay at her Saint-Tropez home and had to undergo surgery at a private hospital.

Bargot was previously rushed to the hospital in July 2023 over breathing issues.

“It was around 9 a.m. when Brigitte had trouble breathing,” d’Ormale, told a local outlet at the time, per the Los Angeles Times.

“It was stronger than usual but she didn’t lose consciousness… the firemen came and gave her oxygen and then stayed to monitor her,” her husband, Bernard d’Ormale, shared.

He also noted at the time that “like all people of a certain age, she can no longer stand the heat.”
