His funeral began at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church in Arlington Heights.

Law enforcement from across the area have been showing their respect for the grieving family and police department.

Fryc’s loved ones, along with Glenview police officers and firefighters, gathered outside in the frigid weather as the fallen officer’s American flag-draped casket was carefully walked into the church.

Blue ribbons are wrapped around nearby trees, and the American flag is lowered to half-staff as a show of respect.

Fryc had served with the Glenview Police Department since 2007.

A visitation was held Thursday for the 43-year-old at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Heights.

There, ABC7 spoke with one of his fellow officers who went to the academy with Fryc. He said Fryc was the kind of guy you could always depend on.

“If you needed somebody who had knowledge, breadth of experience, and understanding, if he’s coming with you as a backing officer, you were always like, OK, this is going to be good,” said Glenview Police Officer Gene Harlow.

Glenview Police Chief William Fitzpatrick released a statement after Fryc’s death, writing, in part, “Officer Fryc was more than just a colleague. He was a part of our family and a part of our community. Our hearts are broken by his passing.”

A 23-year-old man was charged with reckless homicide in the crash that killed Fryc and will remain in custody.

After the funeral, a procession will leave from Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church to a Palatine cemetery, where Fryc will be laid to rest.
