The rookie quarterback is currently competing against veteran Bailey Zappe for the crucial role of backing up Geno Smith.

Injury report
Bailey limped off late in practice with an ankle injury. Glenn doesn’t believe it is serious, and Bailey was jogging on the sideline after being checked out. Safety VJ Payne (bone bruise) is expected to miss three to four weeks, according to Glenn.
Defensive end Kingsley Jonathan is dealing with a thigh bruise, but Glenn expects him to be fine.
